Ecotech marine Vortech 10w review

So here we are, the items of the question to my prior dispute (which had a positive outcome) with Marine Depot and Ecotech Marine- the Vortech 10W.

First let me just say these little powerhead perform far better than they look.

Powerhead/wavermakers of similar size/class all tend to have a less water agitation than the Vortech. Not to mention the ability to control and sync multiple units to recreate some of the natural ocean current.

For a very long time I was skeptical of these not only for their price vs performance. But one of my close friends had purchased a prior generation Vortech and did not have a very positive experience with the performance. It seemed though, that they have made some updates to their design and quality to hold up to the price.

Currently in my 50Gallon fusion lagoon I have mounted two using anti-sync, meaning when A is strong B is weak, and vise versa. And I am running most of the day at lagoon mode as clams and some LPS do not appreciate strong current. But with a four hour window of more turbulent reef gyre during the day, and a four hour window of nutrient export during the night after dark. All modes never exceed 45% of the full capacity.

And my favorite part of this really is how low profile it is inside the tank given that most of the unit is outside. Also that no electrical wiring is exposed to the water causing any charges leaking- like the hydor coralia I had before, zapped me for a good few months until I noticed they were the culprit.

Overall I think this is a very worthy wave maker for anyone interested in keeping higher end coral. And at only 40% this is able to move water at ease for the MP10, I am convinced this is definitely possible to service up to 90Gallon for a pair of them, and the MP40 for any tank larger than 90.
